Debu BLOG

Debu is back, he announced by an e-mail. He did not say that his 100 MHz computer is still working. I am waiting to read his next mail. He started memoir then suddenly became silent. I may request him to publish that part in blog. I requested many people to start writing personal experiences. Ignoramus is personally very pleased with M/s Google & co for arranging blogspot. I hope to know how I can help them so that this could be continued and admit do not understand their business idea. I read in another blog that blogging is growing fast to gain the popularity of online games. When people had time they could share with others, knowledge they had gathered. They talked and rhymed. Industrialization, competition, globalization etc robbed time. Little time whatever one get spend it in front TV soaps/news concoction and/or video Games. Blogging may help to transfer family/local knowledge and history. Or one may record some rare thoughts to pass some mind. To share simple fun is good idea of blog. Debu had a blogspot.

Bad Customer

I am very lazy person. I did e-shopping for two books in gift pack on one of India famous e-shops needless but let me add that full payment is done by e-banking. Books were for birthday gift to my niece Hiya. Perhaps after five days I was informed by e-mail that the shop is sorry to announce the items were out of stock and money will be returned to bank. It isn't a new experience. It is not uncommon to get delivery of factory second for the price of first, broken case or objects perhaps due to inadequate packing, wrong items etc. Some e-sellers offer compensation as bonus points, to rub some more salt. Here e-shops/tele-shops usual delivery time is not less than five days. This is also true, my experience, when buyer and seller are from same metro city. I am a city dweller, I do not know if this service reaches suburbs, forget villages. I guess the shop arrange display on the web site and then forget. OR arrange displays of valued items without stock. When customer order comes purchase officer goes out for good bargain hunts. Then send an email to customer, that so and so items are shipped or out of stock.

Of a under/undeveloped country, in uneven playing field of commerce, consumers suffer. When palm greasing of political/Government power broker become primary, competition is a playing field for criminals/thieves. Customer/consumer is distant secondary. My experience in shopping in Wal-Mart, Target, Homedepo, Amazon.com etc in USA, by which, if I am not wrong, I may say consumers there are more assertive; they punish heavily if standard of service degrade; they value more for quality product/service and able to pay for it.
My humble submission is, although a common knowledge, quality of customer/consumer devises the quality of commerce/Gov/life.
Bye for now, I shall go to a fleece shop.

Friends are priceless assets Posted by Hello

Quest 005

What is the right time to sell asset? ‘When you need money,’ that is not all. Let us limit ourselves with sellable assets only. Other day a newspaper subheading passed my sight, ‘mother sold her kid for 25 paisa’. I think value of paisa is less than pesos. Offspring should not be treated as sellable assets but this extreme measure is, let me imagine, to save the life of a human child from acute poverty, starvation and death. Yes I agree with her. This is a right time and cause for the sale. But I am talking about wage earning padded class.
Say ignoramus invested quarterly surplus in a Birla index fund in 2003. Shall he remain there or move? Is there possibility of rapid rise of indexes in 2005? Or is it wiser to switch to a particular sector or balanced fund? Investing ones surplus in assets is time consuming job. Remaining informed all the time about the change of value that in turn world around is a daily affair. To spend so much time in investments that is, buy and sell assets and in maintaining them, is it worth doing? What is better alternative to consume time?

to my Mother

I do not like to remember exact age. I am fifty plus. So mom you are somewhere seventy. In this house named ‘Khelaghar’ (playhouse) things are almost unaltered as you left this winter, except time. So I am almost with my mother all the time, day, month and year sans the irritants of living together. Here, as you know, time also moves much slower than your place ‘’merica. Piu and Swarup came to this house after they had returned from honeymoon. But I was too busy to take snaps. I am unable to publish photos of the newly married couple. I hope Vivek (visit this link) will be able publish them.
Ma please, you and Jhiki start a common blogspot if you have made enough of quilts. R-A-I may chip in if and when they get time or knack. In fact I was reading “Mother’s Day” in http://www.blogasmic.typepad.com/ , hence the write up. This site I often visit. At your age trouble of traveling across the globe will force you soon to stay put at one place. Even if you would decide to stay more time at Khelaghar you will be able to publish that blog with your daughter together. Love you mom. I like all the moms.

Gun

Let us agree that one may kill others in self defense. People are allowed to possess even combat guns. In USA perhaps most common cause, for individual, is game. In India it is for saving our life and property. License for possession of a gun is issued by authority. It follows strict procedure and for individual, it is heard, palm greasing is the norm. So large numbers of people possess guns, obtained from grey market, without valid permission to do so. And abuses of guns are plenty.
Defense and police personnel are mostly visible gun wielding persons in India. Only in some part of this country and Pakistan some tribes are allowed to show off guns as social status. I did not touch a real gun yet. I think possessor or handler of guns must feel a sense of power with heavy metal toy of destruction in hand. Men with power, whatever kind, often loose head (abuse power) and become irritation to others. Now my irritating power drenched behavior is a provocation for others that in turn are a risk to my life and property that is the cause of possession of a gun. i do not want to have car or gun.
